Floating Fenders
Hippo Floating Donut Fenders
Hippo Marine has been manufacturing and supplying donut fenders for
well over a decade.
Donut fenders are, very simply, a donut shaped type of foam filled floating
fender which are designed to slip over a stationary monopile. They have
also been supplied into other applications, such as protecting jack-up legs.
The principle of such fenders is that they float up and down with the tide
therefore ensuring optimum protection at all times. They are also designed
to freely rotate around the pile to allow vessels to slide along them into the
required position – making them ideal for applications such as lock and dry
dock entrances and protecting bridge supports.
Main advantages of donut fenders
High energy absorption/low reaction force compared to bucking type
rubber fender
Low shear forces as the fender rotates, combined with low-friction skin
Self-adjusts with the water level to always be in the correct position
Quick and easy to install – simply slipped over a pile
Low ongoing maintenance requirements

Actual values for these sizes may vary ±15%.These stated performances are per metre of donut height.
Fender performance is engineered at 60% foam compression. The deflection of the monopile itself will
provide additional energy absorption with the same reaction force rating.
Due to the way in which these fenders are made, an almost infinite number of combinations of sizes and
specifications are achievable. The above grid represents the most commonly requested cylindrical Hippo
donut fenders we are asked to quote and supply, but is by no means an exhaustive list of what we can
supply. Please contact us if you cannot find the fender size, type or performance which you require in the
above table.
